A limited-slip differential built by Quaife help put the turbo four's power to the ground. The only gearbox available on the Challenge is a six-speed manual. It hits 62 mph from a stop in 6.3 seconds, and it goes on to a top speed of 153 mph. Like the standard John Cooper Works, the Challenge uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 231 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. While the Challenge cars feature up to 255 horsepower, there are no major changes in the limited-edition model's engine bay. MINI claims that, as a result, the Challenge is more dynamic to drive and much faster around a track than the standard John Cooper Works it's based on. Handling has been improved with a sportier - and adjustable - suspension setup designed by Nitron, beefier brakes provided by Mintex, and wider 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped by Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The dashboard features a sticker of the car's serial number. The updates inside include bucket seats for the front passengers, and a three-spoke steering wheel. White Silver with a contrasting black roof is the only color combination available. When viewed from the outside, it stands out thanks to bigger intakes up front that direct more cooling air to the engine bay, specific trim over the wheel arches, and a roof-mounted spoiler.
The model is dubbed John Cooper Works Challenge, and, as its name implies, it's inspired by the cars that compete in the MINI Challenge.
